Department website

Students of Dutch Studies MA will be able to acquire a wide-range education, different skills and knowledge. The course provides specialized Dutch and philological and linguistic studies, language skills on high level, professional knowledge of Dutch literature and culture and insight in literary translation. In the scope of the Master Course students will have opportunities of preparation for doctoral studies.

Strength of program

The Master course aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge as a philological disciple (linguistic, literary and cultural studies) of The Netherlands and the Flemish part of Belgium to graduates, who will be familiar with fields and methods of academic research and able to meet the requirements of the postgraduate course.

Career opportunities

All fields requiring a university degree without specifications of majors: publisher's houses, proof reading, editing, journalism, book reviews, interpreting, translating in PhD programmes requiring a major specific degree.

Letter of Authorization

If the applicant uses the services of a non-contracted third party during the application process, a Letter of Authorization must be signed. Applications will not be processed without.

Application procedure

After the applicant has decided which program he or she would like to apply for, and made sure all entrance requirements are met, the applicant is requested to send the required documents to admissions@btk.elte.hu.

Should the applicant want to apply in person, he or she can do so at the International Student Services office during office hours (see contact tab for more information).

Applications will only be processed if the application fee (150EUR; non-refundable) has been transferred to the Faculty’s bank account.

Keep in mind that processing the application might take 3 to 5 weeks—please make sure to apply on time if you require a visa to travel to Hungary.

Admission requirements – Language requirements

Bachelor of Germanic Studies with a specialization of Dutch studies, or, an equivalent foreign degree, or, a Dutch Minor specialization (50 credits) and Dutch language skills at C1 level

Entrance exam

An entrance exam might be conducted, depending on your (academic) credentials. Should this be required, a member of the relevant department will contact you with more information, as to make sure you can prepare accordingly.
