The Portuguese MA-instruction program goes deeply into the majors studied during the BA-period. So the students study literary and linguistic theory, medieval literature, literature of XIXth century and the modern age of Portugal and Brazil, focusing on the work of the most distinguished authors. In the linguistics, the studies of history of language are followed by courses of lexicology, morphology and syntax. There are some courses of translation of scientific texts and courses of composing scientific studies and essays.

Strength of program

The aim of this Portuguese MA-program is to instruct specialists in Portuguese linguistics, literature who would like to realize a scientific career in a high level in the future and prepare the to the PhD. studies. This way the professors and lecturers of the course keep an special eye on the developing of the students, who can study one semester in a Portuguese University (in the Erasmus mobility) and can study with the “visiting professors” who give lectures in the Portuguese Department.

Career opportunities

The MA students of Portuguese finish their instruction with a high level Portuguese knowledge, so they can work like language teachers in public schools or language schools, can work in editorials like editors or literary translators, in ministries like Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Foreign Trade and in International companies in high posts.

Application procedure

After the applicant has decided which program he or she would like to apply for, and made sure all entrance requirements are met, the applicant is requested to send the required documents to admissions@btk.elte.hu.

Should the applicant want to apply in person, he or she can do so at the International Student Services office during office hours (see contact tab for more information).

Applications will only be processed if the application fee (150EUR; non-refundable) has been transferred to the Faculty’s bank account.

Keep in mind that processing the application might take 3 to 5 weeks—please make sure to apply on time if you require a visa to travel to Hungary.
